Tony Harrisons Book Ends Essay Example For Students

Tony Harrisons Book Ends Essay Tony Harrisons Book Ends shows the relationships between father and son during a difficult and grieving time from their point of view. In this poem, past and present relationships are portrayed, along with conflict between educated and uneducated people, however the concluding revelation of the poem is that knowledge and education are consequentially useless. Grief and loss are main themes of this poem, Baked the day she suddenly dropped dead We will write a custom essay on Tony Harrisons Book Ends specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We chew is slowly that last apple pie The idea portrayed by Tony Harrison, is that the woman was a mother figure right up until her death, the relationships must have been content because it appears as though she was eager to fulfil the role of the maternal wife and mother. From this, we can see the death was sudden, unexpected and abrupt. They are eating the apple pie slowly out of respect for her, and to prolong her life, digesting the information gradually just like they are digesting the pie. The impression portrayed is that they are eating it slowly because it might stick in their throat, just like when one is upset and a lump develops in ones throat. From this first couplet we see that the love for the deceased mother was strong, the father and son are grieving in their individual but similar ways, the relationships between them appear strong, affectionate and caring. Harrison reveals the disturbing tumult being tolerated by the father and son, Shocked into sleeplessness, youre scared of bed. We never could talk much and now dont try. The use of sibilance symbolises ambiguous silence, silence representing an empty space of deluded calm created by the loss of someone close to them, or the shocked silence of her sudden death. However the silence could be between the father and son, separated crudely by their education and differences, they no longer feel they have anything in common. Harrison is exposing to us the feelings of fear of the father and son, when somebody close to you dies to reminds you of your immortality, they are too frightened to sleep, when really they are in a deep sleep of ignorance, believing that education is keeping them from grieving in unity. The rhyming couplets symbolise specific things such as relationships, Your like book ends, the pair of you, shed say, Hog that grate, say nothing, sit, sleep, stare The scholar me, you, worn out on poor pay, Only our silence made us seem a pair. The structured couplets, not just here but throughout the poem, continuing the A B A B sequence, symbolises how father and son are together to deal with the tribulation as a partnership or couple, this shows the relationship between them as strong and in unanimity with their emotions, the impression portrayed is that the death could bring them closer together. They are reminiscing on memories of the deceased, remembering what she used to say, this illustrates that they can never forget her, or her memories, the love that they shared for her will not go, it will linger along with the pain of her death. The use of structure in this poem is interesting, the sequence A B A B is continued throughout the whole poem, Not as good for staring in, blue gas, too regular each bud, each yellow spike. A Night you need my company to pass And she not here to tell us were alike! Despite the regular pattern, Harrison takes us from image to image, jumping fragmentally from different ideas, this reflects the disarray of grief, but the ordered structure counteracts that and Harrison gives us the combination of order and disorder, creating the chaotic ambience to his poem which reflects the emotional turmoil that the father and son are enduring. .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5 , .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5 .postImageUrl , .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5 , .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5:hover , .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5:visited , .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5:active { border:0!important; } .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5:active , .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5 .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ue617ecddb5c9c4284ebba64f8ba971d5:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Walt Whitman: the Poet, the Prophet, and the Patriot EssayBook Ends II is mainly about educational differences, Come on its not as if were wanting verse. Its not as if were wanting a whole sonnet! Harrison mocks himself, he appears angry at himself that he cannot find words to suit the tombstone. Harrison is concentrating far too much on his education, and is not thinking of the real reason he is doing this, the tombstone is a sign of respect, possibly he should respect his mothers education and make the tombstone wording simple. In this poem, Tony Harrison is validating the language of the working class. When it really matters, education and knowledge are unimportant, but love and expressing your true feelings whether in sonnet or just in a few words is far more important.

Romeo Juliet theatre review Essay Example

Romeo Juliet theatre review Essay Example Romeo Juliet theatre review Paper Romeo Juliet theatre review Paper Romeo and Juliet is a romantic play based on two peoples desire to spend their lives together, but it doesnt exactly turn out exactly as they would have liked. The Black Cat Company showed this William Shakespeare production to us on Friday the 20th of October. This play is nearly split in half at the beginning, there are two groups of people both completely different, The Capulets and The Montagues. Romeo a good-looking working class young man is a Montague and always will be, he falls for a beautiful women Juliet and everything is fine until he finds out that she is a Capulet. After sneaking around Romeo is banished from the city of Verona for killing Tybalt a Capulet. Whilst Juliet is forced to marry a gentleman (by her parents) she does not want to go through with it. She then gets her hands on a potion that made her sleep for 48 hours. Her parents find her the next morning and think she passed away in the night. Romeo hears his beloved Juliet is dead and buys very strong poison; he goes to where Juliets body is and drinks it. Juliet wakes up and after seeing Romeos body she kills herself. The set they used was very simple, set out on stage left was a table with a flowery cloth on it, in the centre of the stage was a black box making it look quite simple and old fashioned, this had a sword in it, at the back was obviously a backdrop, where the actors changed and also was a music player. The music was very carefully chosen and really set a goof atmosphere, the costumes made it very obvious of the time this played would have taken place. The lighting was very basic; there were no special lighting effects at all. The characters really made an effort to involve the audience, their diction was also very clear. The narrator spoke very well and told the story very interestingly. Tybalt made it very clear that he was a baddy his anger came across well and also had very good stage presence. Benvolio had very good facial expressions and all around body movement, interesting to watch when he was on stage. Romeo was on stage nearly at all times he was a good actor that moved well across the stage, the tension between him and Juliet came across very well, he showed clearly that Romeo was a Montague by making clear hand jesters and generally acting like a down to earth working class young man. Juliets speech was in general quite good, but at some points I found it hard to understand her because she spoke very fast and ended up loosing her cotenants. Her use of props was very good and I think she improved her stage presence as the play progressed. Her best part was by far keeping incredibly still on the table while she was meant to be dead, it must have taken a lot of rehearsal. Mercutio was personally my favourite actor he had a very good pronunciation of Shakesperes English and seemed to pick it up very well. His reactions were also very clear and very interesting to watch. The nurse was more of a comedy actress, she did it very well to begin with and was very entertaining but towards the end, she went a little bit over the top. She involved the audience a lot and made a lot of the younger children laugh. This was all due to her body movements, she acted the elderly women very well and made it very obvious after one step on stage everyone could tell that she was playing an old woman. Her facial expressions were also something to remember. All of the actors and actresss worked well together and if someone forgot their lines they would each no exactly what to do. The moods change quite frequently in a play like this as it can go from happy and romantic to death or tragedy, the music really helped us realise what was going on. This story can also come across as very complicated, but as the actors new they were performing to a young audience so they deliberately targeted that aged group; they did it well so that they would find it easy to follow the story line and understand it. Even if the children didnt quite understand the language they could still tell what was going on because of the acting, the way they looked at each other and acted towards each other. The other thing that I happened to notice was the way the audience reacted to certain scenes, they whistled in the romantic scenes and gasped in the fighting scenes, which is a clear compliment to the actors. In comparison to other plays I have scene this one was good although with the right equipment and lighting and effects it could have been a lot better, but unfortunately they just didnt have the time to plan all of that. Other plays that I have seen are very different ones to this I have seen mostly musicals. An important scene in this production was the opening scene, it was an all round good scene, it was clear about what was happening, it made it very obvious about who was Montague and who was Capulet it gave the production a kick start as they caught the attention to the audience. Another important scene was the big fight scene, with all of the actors present when Mercutio was murdered; it was set out well, which was also easy to understand. My favourite scene by far has to be the last one, where tragedy hits, Juliet is dead on a table and Romeo comes in bursting with tears looking at his beautiful lover and just torn apart at the fact that he has lost her, he then kills himself but right at the moment when he is in so much pain he cannot speak a word Juliet wakes up and sees him there struggling to breathe and the look they exchange is just incredible. The atmosphere that is created in not easy to sit through but it is still brilliant and the audiences reaction to what had happened was what they were hoping for Im sure. It was very effective. I enjoyed this play very much and it was just a shame that I couldnt give it my full attention, as I had to write notes in the process. Four people, two women and two men, and the fact they had no interesting lighting or effects they did exceptionally well to put this play together. They certainly targeted the audience well and also at the end they let the audience ask questions about their background and also asked for a couple of volunteers and showed them how to stage fight. I thought this was a very good thing to include as it doesnt just mean that we just watch a play and thats the end of it, we also got to learn about it and pick up a few good tips on how to act well. I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon.

Catcher In The Rye Essay Example for Free (#4)

Catcher In The Rye Essay A journey is more than a physical movement from one place to another. All journeys no matter how arduous entail setbacks and barriers that must be met. In doing so the traveller experiences a more significant inner journey of self growth. This is evident in the journey from adolescence to adulthood during which setbacks and barriers may entail a loss of innocence. J. D Salinger’s novel the Catcher in the rye explores this concept through various literary techniques. ( thesis) Loss of innocence as a major issue within the concept of a rites of passage is explored by J. D Salinger through the protagonist Holden Caulfield. His journey appears to be one self destructive act after another. This adult world into which Holden is forced into disturbs him profoundly. In his view, the adults who dwell this world, seem to be filled with phoniness, pretence and social compromise. He finds it almost intolerable to communicate with most adults and peers. This is prevalent throughout the book when he constantly brings up the question of what happens to the ducks in winter. The adults’ response to this recurring question is of contemn and expectation to know the answer, therefore never giving him an adequate explanation. This clearly demonstrates how his innocent mind conflicts with this phony adult world, and his response, is to rebel against this whole society. â€Å" quote† Holden expresses his rebellion through his inability to progress in life and his hatred of people. It is really only in children that he sees the true simplicity of honesty- and that is his escape from this adult phony world. Salinger portrays the transition from adolescence to adulthood as a quest for self identity and self discovery. For Holden however, his journey is a bombardment of obstacles in his search for connection with others, thus highlighting the angst of growing up. Holden finally breaks down with the constant disappointments and let downs he encounters. â€Å"quote ans technique† From his fight with Stradlater to Maurice’s exploitation of a prostitute, to Mr Antolini’s behaviour, Holden just cannot handle any more letdowns so his odyssey is one of loneliness and cynicism. An example of this is when Holden abruptly gives Sally an ultimatum to leave their current lives behind and build a future without the promise of stability. Sally’s refusal to this proposal results in Holden lashing out at her hence elucidating Holden’s naivety. And, just like a kid, he thinks that everyone is to blame except for him. The inability to meet setbacks and barriers and accept a loss of innocence within the jouney from adolescence to adulthood will inevitably lead to ones downfall. The deliberate irony is that Holden strives to act as a grown up but constantly acts like a child is seen in his provocation of his peers and his irrational thinking. â€Å"quote † The title of the book, â€Å"Catcher in the Rye,† is more than just a pretty ditty. It is Holden’s dream to be the catcher in the rye, thus save little children from falling off the cliff into adulthood. â€Å"Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody’s around–nobody big, I mean–except me. And I’m standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff–I mean if they’re running and they don’t look where they’re going. I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That’s all I’d do all day. I’d just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it’s crazy, but that’s the only thing I’d really like to be. † Holden is adamant on playing the adult role of protecting children and their innocence that gets lost in the adult phony world. He envisions protecting and shielding children from the evils of society, when he himself is one who is in a state of conflict between adolescence and adulthood. However, it is through the telling of his story that Holden eventually gains control of his disturbed past. His search for self identity and discovery can be seen as a search for tolerance, acceptance and understanding- something that he finally experiences in the final scene with Phoebe riding the carrousel. When he see’s Phoebe on the carrousel, he accepts that he is not a child anymore indicating that he is perhaps more accepting of change. Towards the end, Holden has found some wisdom when he claims to â€Å"sort of miss everyone. † There was some light for him at the end of the tunnel- and that light is hope and acceptance that he doesn’t live in such an evil world that he made out to be. Holden wants desperately to protect this idealistic life but perhaps he realises at the end that it is not possible and that maturity is a means of accepting what life throws at one. How he deals with obstacles along the way conveys Holden’s journey from adolescence into adulthood. Catcher In The Rye. (2016, Dec 15). UPA Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

UPA - Essay Example As the essay declares a theoretical framework guides research and clarifies what exactly is the purpose of the research. Even though the research question tends to be misleading as the article progresses the purpose of research becomes clear. This research was based on a preconceived notion that the triage is higher when UAPs handle the emergency department. This can produce unbiased results. This also implies that the theoretical framework on the nursing theory constantly guided the author in her research. Not knowing what the real framework can be a problem. The author has used a developmental framework. This paper stresses that while the introduction of the subject tends to be slightly confusing in the beginning the problem has been properly highlighted in the text later. The flow of the subject is efficiently handled. Current and proper references used and cited wherever necessary. The author is not trying to prove that her preconceived notions were correct. The actual results are quoted which revealed that contrary to belief the triage time taken by licensed nurses or by the UAPs did not differ. It convinces the reader to remove this myth from the mind that triage is faster when nurses handle it. Issues have been well argued and presented. References have been cited from various books on this subject. The author still suggests another ‘study to compare the educational level of the triage nurse†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ implying that this has not been covered so far. At times the author tends to contradict her own statements.

Government Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Government - Case Study Example But at the same time, prosecution gave impression of being over zealous in indicting only Martha, who was actually a much smaller culprit of the said crime as against the Mr. Samuel Waksal, who was a major offender. Mr. Samuel was a cofounder of the company, who had intentionally set to defraud the various stakeholders through deliberate insider trading based on confidential information. Business persons are guided by their financial advisors and therefore, Martha Stewart’s only crime was that she had trusted financial advisor, Peter Bacanovic and then continued to follow his instruction under the misguided notion that her actions would actually acquit her of the financial misdeeds. The market driven approach of the health industry is neither valid nor ethical. In the market driven health system, consumers or people decide what goods (health module) to buy and at what cost. The prices and the level of services become the crucial factor in the exchange of goods or the healthcare services. In US, the healthcare is market driven and even the essential ones like insurance, accessibility etc are treated like commodities. The healthcare components like accessibility to good medical care, quality and cost are therefore, increasingly moving beyond the grasp of general public. In the current scenario of recessive trends, huge unemployment and rising cost of health care imperatives, increasing number of Americans have inadequate or have no health insurance cover because of unemployment. The market paradigms of the healthcare system have made it extremely discriminatory and unaffordable and thereby inaccessible for the unemployed and low income citizens. Thus, it can be concluded that an unprecedented commercialization with the healthcare industry that has not boded well for the masses. The government must come up with more stringent measures and controls so that market driven interests are not able to exploit the vulnerable class. The government must ensure

Perspective of Carl Jung Essay Example for Free

Perspective of Carl Jung Essay The most obvious thing Carl Jung had an opinion was the psychology of the times, and how the mind worked. His main interaction of the ideas of the time was through his, what one could call, feud with Freud. Freud believed that there were two parts that affected human thought and action: the conscious, and the subconscious. The conscious was what we thought, believed, and other things that we were able to easily access in our minds, such as strong memories. The subconscious however, was everything that affected our behavior and though, but wasnt easily reachable, such as recessed memories and thoughts and instinct. Jungs system was a slightly more complex system made up of three parts: the conscious, the subconscious, and the general subconscious. The conscious was basically the same, but the subconscious lacked Freuds instinct, and the general subconscious was totally new. Jung believed that every human being tapped into a general subconscious, which allowed instinct, similar reactions to things, and another key subject in Jungs psychology: Archetype and symbols. In Jungs psychology, he believed that there were many symbols and ideas that were immediately recognizable to people of any education, race or class. The thing was that since this was a part of the general subconscious, we were likely not even able to recognize that we recognized these symbols! This recognition may stem out of an emotional response, or a simple nagging feeling at the back of the mind, if anything at all. Another important pillar of the Jungian psychological ideas was the interpretation of dreams. Again, he ran against Freud in his ideas about interpreting dreams. The Freudian method of ‘free association allowed for any detail of the dream to be focused upon, and continually broadened upon until the ‘problem was found. The Jungian method believed that the dream as a whole had a specific purpose. The overall feeling, topic and main details of the dream were focused upon in this method rather then any individual one.

Civil War camp life (talking points) Essay examples -- essays research

Civil War Army Rations According to army regulations for camp rations, a Union soldier was entitled to receive daily: 12 oz of pork or bacon or 1 lb. of fresh or salt beef; 1 lb. of soft bread or flour 1 lb. of hard bread, or 1 lb. of cornmeal. Per every 100 rations there was issued; 1 peck of beans or peas; 10 lb. of rice or hominy; 10 lb. of green coffee, 8 lb. of roasted and ground coffee, or 1 lb. 8 oz of tea; 15 lb. of sugar; 1 lb. 4 oz of candles, 4 lb. of soap; 1 qt of molasses. The marching ration consisted of 1 lb. of hard bread, 3/4 lb. of salt pork or 1 1/4 lb. of fresh meat, plus the sugar, coffee, and salt. Coffee was the main staple of the Civil War soldier, usually drinking 3-4 QUARTS a day. The ration lacked variety but in general the complaints about starvation by the older soldiers was largely exaggerated. Confederate rations were largely the same, although because of logistical problems they were forced to reduce them. What the Army didn't give you, you got from a Sutler. There usually was a Sutler attached to the armies, and from them you could buy things like tobacco, candy, tinned meats, shoelaces, patent medicines, fried pies, and newspapers, albiet at an inflated rate, and usually not the highest quality of goods. CAMP LIFE:   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The typical Civil War army camp was a place where the day would usually (when they weren't in battle) began at 5am, and after sleeping in an overcrowded tent with 20 or so other...

Playa Dorada Upload Essay

Goals of expansion strategy The goal of Douglas Hall, which is currently in charge of creating an expansion strategy for Playa Dorada is to create a new expansion strategy in long term which may be by creating new facilities for people using tennis courts and increase the efficiency of the actual existing tennis courts by modifying or optimizing playing hours or pricing of the courts. Additional to this Hall needs to satisfy all parties existing at Playa Dorada, including the following departments: -Research operations / low investment, easy to manage -Marketing Sales / new tennis club house, lounge and shop -Finance / cash flow and ROI -Development / blending into nature and exotic architecture -Create an expansion strategy quickly -Satisfy all parties Offered adjustments and solutions in the case -Readjust pricing strategies -Build new courts Problem definition internal and external -guest expect to double soon -increasing demand of tennis activities – not being able to keep the upholding trend -land limitation for additional courts -primary: capacity fulfilment and pricing structure -overcrowding can result in decrease of sales in houses -satisfy all parties needs The problem of Playa Dorada internally and externally are the facts that the demand for the tennis courts is growing steadily and intensively. The amount of guest wanting to use the available tennis courts is forecasted to double  the next years. Therefore the existing tennis courts cannot keep up with the raising trend of using tennis facilities at the Playa Dorada beach resort, which can result in unsatisfied guests, because they cannot use the desired tennis facilities during their holidays. Being unsatisfied guests can want to change the resort for holiday in the following holiday seasons because Playa Dorada is overcrowded and desired activities cannot be done. In addition to this the tennis courts are mainly utilized by guests that are visiting the resort for the second and third time. Guest that are at Playa Dorada for the first time usually prefer to use the beach as a major tourist attraction rather then play tennis or golf at the resort. Another issue that exists is the limitation for additional tennis courts. The demand for more tennis facilities could be stilled by building new tennis courts. The problem is that there is only space in order to build only four additional tennis courts which might only help in the short term of stilling the growing demand as forecasts are expecting continuous growth. The efficiency usage of the actual tennis courts is another problem as those usage seems not to be maximized in terms of capacity. The currently existing tennis courts are usually available around 8am in the morning and with the sun going down in the evening. Too many guests are the general issue. Additionally the pricing structure might be resettled in order to still the demand for the available tennis courts. The existing high amount of guests and being overcrowded in some departments at Playa Dorada Inc. can result in a decrease of sales in Playa Dorada’s main profit activity, the sale of villas on the resort. Not dealing with the high demand of guests, and trying to satisfy all needs can result in huge losses and decrease of ROI for Playa Dorada as their villas need a huge investment to be build. This could cause a general existing issue for the whole Playa Dorada Inc. At least there exists the issue of satisfying all parties and departments inside Playa Dorada as long as they do not have the same expectations. All departments have different priorities and Hall needs to identify the most relevant ones and to find compromises for all parties included. Customer Analysis -families with kids -income more than 125000$ a year -9-10 days resort vacations -customer play tennis during morning hours and late afternoon -customers usually play one hour -prefer clay courts -prefer less humidity and good climate The customers of Playa Dorada Inc are in general families with one or two kids with parents that have the average income of 125000$ and belong to higher positions in companies or organizations such as managers. In average those families spend about 9-10 days at the beach resort in spring or winter. According the tennis courts the customers usually prefer to play not more than one hour in the morning around 9-11 am or the late afternoon 4-6 pm which are the preferred and most desired playing hours. The grown up customers which are usually the parents within the families are the main clients for the courts, providing most profitability. Those customers prefer clay courts as they are not as hard as the rubber latex ones. Many clients like to refuse from the rubber latex courts as it might hurt their bones. Company analysis Strengths (Ranked from 1 strong to 6 less important) -brand image well known for quality and in general – brand awareness (2) -many activities in resort as tennis golf and so on (4) -Good location tourist destination for holidays (3) -steadily high increasing demand of facilities and high interest of clients for the Playa Dorada in the last few years (1) -74% of guests well educated (6) -clients with high income (5) PD is already having a strong brand awareness among customers. The resort is known for being a luxurious place for well educated people with a higher then average income. PDs beach resort focuses on this people and creates a community for well educated and high income people. Many guests like the weather and the activities the resort offers and for this reason they buy accommodations or return to the resort in the following years. In addition to this the resort is located in Boca Raton, Florida where the weather is  good during the winter season and American families can travel there quite fast without long flights to tropical and exotic places. Therefore the demand for PDs beach resort is steadily growing what is another strength for the company as it provides temporary safety in visitors and allows to forecast that at least the amount of clients should not decrease in the short term. At least the high income of clients allows higher prices and provides clients which are more willing to spend money during their holiday period. Those clients arrived to spend their money in order to recover and have a nice time at the beach resort. Weaknesses (Ranked from 1 strong to 8 less important) -being unable to deal with increasing demand already (1) -in summer courts are not fully used (4) -no possibility to play at darkness (5) -no courts available during most desired playing hours 9-11 am and 4-6 pm (3) -players playing more than one hour with the usage of discounts, blocking courts for others (6) -fees from maintenance costs of preferred clay courts (7) -fees from maintenance and services for housekeeping (8) -intensive advertising and promotion of tennis activities (2) The weaknesses the resort is facing are big disparities in the amount of clients during summer and winter periods as well as a lack of usage of the tennis courts during the summer period. Secondly the usage of the courts in the winter period is overcrowded what results in unsatisfied clients. The usage of courts is limited, playing in hours of darkness is not possible and the pricing structure for the plays is not actual to the existing demand. Fees of maintaining the houses and clay courts are high. Additionally the marketing strategy of advertising and promoting the tennis courts is not on time anymore as the courts do not have to be advertised anymore. Opportunities (Ranked from 1 big to 6 low) -popularity of tennis is growing in general as trend sports (5) -tourism in Florida steadily growing (4) -continuous increasing demand of PD and growing brand awareness at customers (2) -increasing demand of guest and buyers (1) -automatization of labour providing more efficiency, lower labour costs and higher margins (6) -budget used for advertising tennis courts can be used more efficiently (3) The opportunities of Pc are the fact that the whole tourism industry in Florida is steadily gaining popularity and is continuously growing. Additionally to this the demand of tennis courts is growing as tennis seems to be a trendy sport at this times. When PD will be able to fulfil the needs of customers according attractions in PD a good future for the profit of the organization can be existent. In addition to this margins can be increased by automized labour which can decrease labour costs. At least the budget of advertising the tennis court can be cancelled in order to use the money more efficient in another investment. Threats (Threats ranked from 1 big to 8 low) -overcrowding of facilities (2) -being unable to satisfy clients (1) -falling brand recognition (destruction of PD) and amount of clients (4) -no sales of housing (3) -no ROI (6) -high disparity of guest between summer and winter time (5) -substitutes available outside the resort (8) -continuous advertising might higher demand even more (7) Playa Dorada might have to face many dangerous threats in future, when not dealing with the issue of overcrowding at its sports facilities in the resort. Staying overcrowded and not satisfying customers needs like providing tennis courts might result in a falling brand awareness of PD and a loss in clients. This loss in clients would be highly dangerous because the sporting facilities are mainly used by returning clients to the resort. Clients that spend their first time at the resort prefer spending their free time at the beach rather than do active sports. Without satisfied returning clients sports facilities might be completely unused what would result a big decrease in ROI and increase cost for the whole organization. In addition to this, spoiling its reputation of being a luxury and good place for people to spend their  holidays in would result in a lower demand for clients that might buy housing at the PD beach resort. This would cause a giant loss in the company’s biggest profit department and the huge investment of building houses would not pay off. The existence of the whole PD resort would have been challenged. Another threat PD could face is a bigger disparity of clients during the winter and summer period. With a new investment in new tennis courts the demand in the high season might be filled but in the low season even more facilities might be unused and useless. Therefore it would be questionable if the investment would pay back for the new courts. Without building this new courts in the resort the high demand might shift to other tennis courts outside the beach resort. Clients might be desperate to play tennis and not getting any courts and change to another provider outside the resort that is less problematic. Once the clients have gone and will be satisfied, the possibility that they will come back is rather small. Therefore the loss of clients might be very expensive for the tennis courts department. Recommendations Short term -build lights at existing courts to provide playing at night -avoid discounts at pricing to not encourage people to play longer -higher prices as demand is very high in order to increase profit and ROI and lower the amount of clients -higher prices during rush hours of tennis courts -stop with advertising the tennis courts, advertise other sports facilities as golf In the short term Hall needs to increase the efficiency of the already existing tennis courts. This might happen with the building of lighting at the tennis courts so that some clients that want to play tennis might play it in the hours of darkness. Installing lights is an investment but it does  not take much time compared to building new courts and is rather small. In addition to this all discount strategies have to be cancelled as PD does not want clients to play more than one hour but to increase profits and ROI of the tennis courts already existing. Another issue is that the more clients can play during one day the satisfied the mass will be. In opposite the prices for renting the court for a second hour might be slightly higher. This will make clients not even think about playing another hour just because it is cheaper. Furthermore clients will still be satisfied as they already have played on the courts this special day. If necessary it is possible to advice them to play for a normal price at hours where the courts will not be fully used. Another increase in pricing should be made during rush hours of playing at the tennis courts with the reason that this times (9-11 am and 4-6 pm) are the most popular among clients. Clients that really consists on playing at those hours will be more willing to pay. Finally the advertising for the tennis courts has to stop because the courts are already facing a too high amount of customers in the high season. The marketing strategy may be modified to advertise the courts at low season by for example providing different tournaments or events at the tennis courts (further information see long term strategy). Long term – tournaments and events in low season (tennis courts might be used differently) – build two new tennis courts to answer the demand – you can explain your potential clients that you are reacting to their expectations it might show them that investing in PD beach resort is reasonable – find another facility in the beach resort which needs to be promoted or use the money from advertising for other investments as new tennis courts in new  regions – if still needed after all the actions because of very high demand, build new courts at another locations of the park – if locations might be far away you can provide transport services (golf cars) in order to bring your clients to the new tennis courts As shortly described in the short term strategy, in the low season more clients can be attracted to the usage of the tennis courts by providing different tournaments or events on the ground of the tennis courts such as different games for kids or tennis tournaments. The advertisement of the tennis courts itself has to stop and to be modified in order to not attract too many clients as their expectations cannot be fully satisfied. Advertising should promote another sports activity in the resort that might need more clients or at least promote the events or tennis at the tennis courts in the low season in order to attract customers when they are needed. In addition to this techniques two more tennis courts have to be build in the area that is already provided in order to cover the forecasted raise of clients in the next years. The building of more tennis courts right now is not necessary as it is hard to forecast how pricing, advertising and lightning at the courts described in the short term strategies will influence the demand for tennis courts in the long term. The building of two new tennis courts can be used as a marketing strategy in order to show clients that PD is solving the issue of too many clients at the tennis courts that will create a feeling of safety in potential customers of houses showing them that this is the right place to invest in houses. If there still will be relevant increasing of clients at the tennis courts, new clay courts might have to be build in another location of the PD beach resort. In order to make the new courts attractive to the clients as they might be  far away from the current tennis courts, PD might provide a transport service for clients to drive them to the new tennis courts with for example with small electrical vehicles as golf cars. The transport services might be cheap to not distract clients and just cover the cost of installing the vehicles and maintenance. If the demand for this transport services will be unexpected high it might be turned into a profit activity and expanded through the whole resort.

Reaction to word crimes

Through the use of social medias and testing, some of the youth and young adults of today have developed a type of laziness when It comes to simple spelling, as well as, grammatical mistakes. Surprisingly, these mistakes have become so common that they have been accepted as the standard. After watching the â€Å"Weird AY† Wantonly video one point was made very clear, that the target audience Is the youth of modern society. This is shown through his use of humor and illustration of modern social media and the poor habits that the youth of today posses.Weird AY† brings up some common grammatical misconceptions that have, unfortunately, become very common throughout society. One example of this is when he talks about the confusion people have with the difference between the use of less and the use of fewer. Through his use of illustration, it is conveyed how less is to be used when referring to a measurable amount, and fewer is to be used in reference to a number of items. AY also elaborates to the audience that the words â€Å"be, see, are, and you† shouldn't be written as single letters and the laziness that goes along with writing those words as single letters Is despicable.Through his song † Word Crimes,† AY projects his view on the literary repose of the modern cyber based society that is the world today. The often use of humor and criticism helps to teach the audience the proper use of grammar and spelling ,as well as, shed light on the ignorance of the English language that some of the youth and early adults of today posses. His use of humor is a very good tool to convey his point and view on the topic of awful English habits that have become apparently more common across society youth and makes his song all the more useful in his favor.

Dracula As The Anti-Christ Essays - Fiction, Literature, Free Essays

Dracula As The Anti-Christ Essays - Fiction, Literature, Free Essays Dracula As The Anti-Christ Dracula as the Anti-Christ Anti-Christianity is a major reoccurring theme throughout Bram Stokers Dracula. The novel portrays Anti-Christian values and beliefs, through one of its characters. Dracula one of the main characters in the novel is used to take on the characteristics of the Anti-Christ. Stoker uses many beliefs from the Christian religion to display numerous amounts of Anti-Christian values, superstitious beliefs of the protection towards evil, and to compare and contrast the powers of God with those of Dracula. It is a theme that is used throughout the entire book. There are many ways that Bram Stoker's character Dracula can be considered the Anti-Christ, mostly because of the showing of Anti-Christian values and abuses of the Christian religion. In chapter one as Jonathan Harker is traveling to Castle Dracula he is met by several people who give him a crucifix when he tells them where he is heading. One superstition is that a rosary will protect you from all evil, and in this novel the evil is Dracula. This rosary protects him when Jonathan cuts himself shaving the next day and Dracula lunges for his throat, but stops when he sees the crucifix around Jonathan's neck. Later in the book it discusses how you can defend yourself from Dracula and other vampires by the possession of a crucifix or practically any consecrated item from the Christian religion can be used to save you from the attack or presence of a vampire. Another example of one of the superstitious acts is later in the book when Van Helsing uses a Host to prevent Dracula from enterin g his coffin or when he makes a Holy Circle with the Hosts to keep vampires out and to keep Mina safe. All of these are examples in which some forms of Christian beliefs are used to prevent the attack of Dracula. Dracula has several powers that the Christian's believe no one but God could control. For instance, Dracula can control the weather, wild, or unclean animals, he can change form, and has the power of necromancy. Christians believe that consuming God's body and blood will give them everlasting life with God in heaven, Dracula is remaining undead, or nosferatu, by consuming the blood of the living to survive and to build his strength. By this, Dracula is relying on humans to restore his life after death and not concentrating on God as the source of life. It is said that you must let God into your heart, Dracula may not enter someone's home unless they let him in. God is referred to in the Bible as being the light, which symbolizes happiness or life. Dracula's powers are limited during the light and his powers are stronger in the night, during darkness, which symbolizes evil. Dracula moves to an old abandoned Church not used anymore which can show that God is no longer present which wou ld accomplish Dracula's purpose of spreading evil. Dracula is also portrayed as the Anti-Christ by having similarities with Jesus but in evil ways. As Dracula feeds on the blood of the living he creates followers as Jesus had disciples. Throughout the book several times, normally while Reinfield (one of his followers or disciples) is speaking, when Dracula is referred to the pronoun is capitalized, as Christians would do when referring to God. Reinfield views Dracula as god-like and all-powerful, he also refers to him as his master. Throughout the novel, Bram Stoker uses many biblical allusions to show the god-like manner of Dracula, such as the blood is the life said by Reinfield and when Renfield quotes Enoch. Renfield wants to walk by Draculas side as Enoch walked by Gods side. When the count is defeated in the end, he becomes dust. This is important because turning into dust represents Christian freedom in death and frees him from his evil ways. Bram Stokers Dracula emphasizes role of Christianity against Draculas Anti-Christian presence. Dracula himself is a demonic figure, both in appearance and in behavior, and could be considered the Anti-Christ. In many ways Dracula is represented as the epitome of evil. In the end, he is defeated by holiness. Dracula uses many biblical references and shows a true resemblance between

Financial and Strategic Management of Projects Wk11 Essay

Financial and Strategic Management of Projects Wk11 - Essay Example Ethics must be considered by project managers in their planning for projects. A project that has a good budget, reasonable time allocation, and all the necessary resources to complete a project successfully can fail due to a lack of ethics among the team players. A case study of a firm that went form market leader to becoming at the time the biggest bankruptcy in United States history due to a lack of ethics in the Enron scandal. Project management is very important towards the success of a multinational corporation. Back in the late 1990’s Nike Corporation faced some serious problems due to the lack of ethical conduct of the project managers overseeing the foreign manufacturing operations of Nike. The firm lost millions of dollars in revenues due to the bad publicity from the revelation that Nike was running sweatshop manufacturing operations. During the past decade the business world has realized the importance of corporate social responsibility. Changes in customer tastes and expectations have made companies producing green products one the fastest growing industries in the United States and abroad. For instance in the car industry automobiles that used hybrid or electric technologies have soaring demands in the marketplace. In 2010 the total sales of hybrid vehicles in the United States were 28,592 which accounts for about 2.5% of total auto sales in the industry (Hybridcars, 2011). A project manager has to take into consideration the environmental impact of a project. During the past century the industrial world has caused great damage to the environment due to pollution its activities have caused. Global warming, deforestation, and food scarcity are some of the problems our society faces in the coming decades. A financial strategy that can be used to give back to the community is donating a fixed percentage of the revenues of a firm. A

Cyber Bulling and Its Discontent Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Cyber Bulling and Its Discontent - Essay Example lack of legislative policies, several methods, such as prevention and endurance, concealing personal information and being positive, can help teenagers to avoid this online bullying trend. According to Andrew Solomon, prevention and endurance are among the ways of avoiding online bullying or real life challenges. He says that people should be cautious when interacting with others online, especially strangers and friends (Solomon, n. p). This is because it helps in avoiding negative reactions from others and making them positive stories. This implies that social media sites where users interact freely increases the chances of being a bullying victim since it attracts strangers and bullies to access one’s profile (Solomon, n. p). The viable way to preventing such interactive connections is by avoiding the sites and being tolerate not to be an addict. Solomon offers examples of interviews he conducted, suggesting that people will always fall victims to things that they accept (Solomon, n. p). Online harassment among the teenagers is widespread because they have allowed interacting and accommodating the bullies instead of avoiding their advances. I strongly believe that avoidance is suitable since it distances the bullies from the victims. Non-accessibility of personal details is another way of avoiding the online bullying. This implies that a person should employ security measures that prohibit access to unauthorized users. The stigmatized identities use information derived from the profiles that target a specific group of individuals. For instance, the race, faith, category or sexuality aspects are always the ones used by bullies to haunt their prey. Tyler Clementi’s death arose because of the sexuality aspect in which his roommates and friends victimized him online for being gay, which was untrue (Parker, n. p). Ravi and Wei had placed on Twitter that Clementi was seen under a blanket with another man. Clementi felt sad and embarrassed, which he could not
